Along a Path to Achieve Their Highest Potential

Early Learning Essentials is also known as Mountainland Head Start, Inc.

Who we Serve

Every child deserves the opportunity to acquire the early learning essentials necessary to enter school ready to learn. However, children who face barriers to success – those who live in poverty, have a disability or otherwise been impacted by trauma face complex challenges which require comprehensive intervention with additional supports to promote their healthy growth and development. We are here to serve these children and their families.

Why Early Learning Essentials?

Why it Matters

Poverty

The effects of poverty on children’s development and academic performance has been well documented. Children in poverty are much more likely to score very
low on math and reading which are the key predictors for school success perpetuating economic disparities.

Disabilities

Some disabilities make it difficult for children to communicate distress or manage their behavior in ways that schools expect or require from typically developing students.

Trauma

Research shows that children who have gone through trauma such as adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are more likely to have executive functioning challenges, poor self-regulation, and other impediments to learning.

Poor Health and Nutrition

Poor nutrition and unaddressed health issues in children contribute to the loss of developmental potential and life-long good healthy habits.

Whether it is by lending a listening ear, helping with enrollments, providing advice or information, resolving a concern or helping us connect to community resources, the Family Advocate makes our parenting jobs easy and strengthens our resolution to work in parallel with the teachers to give our children a good quality education.”
